This is a Ranger Veteran Build for Vermintide 2 that is designed to be able to do pretty much everything on its own. It can clear waves of enemies by duplicating Incendiary Bombs with Ranger's Parting Gift (Drink a potion before you throw the bomb for more damage). It can one-shot most Elites and Specials thanks to the Masterwork Pistol. It has very high boss damage. It can turn invisible while shooting enemies, and it's decent at fighting it out in melee when needed, able to regenerate quite a lot of THP.
While not intended for True Solo, you can use it for that, because it has an answer for pretty much everything Vermintide 2 can throw at you. This build has a high skill ceiling and is perhaps not the easiest thing for beginners to use, but it's also not super difficult to play. You just have to get used to using the Masterwork Pistol, which works a bit differently to other ranged weapons, and stay cool in tough situations.
Weapons
Our melee weapon is the Dual Hammers. I like this weapon because you have a pretty good dodge distance with them, an excellent move-tech and a reasonably high damage output. They're also good at staggering hordes, and can give you lots of THP.
Important combos:
- Hordes - Spam LAs. This is enough to deal pretty good cleave damage and get a lot of THP due to the stagger.
- Elites/Bosses - Honestly, you should be using your Masterwork Pistol for these. Put if you're forced to go into melee for some reason, it's usually best to spam the first heavy attack. To do this, HA > tap block > repeat
- Movetech - Sometimes you need to run faster, either when speeding through a level with friends or kiting enemies in a tough situation. To do this, you can spam the first LA while running forward. Tap block very quickly to cancel it, so you keep doing the first light attack. The faster you can animation cancel the light attack and redo it, the faster you'll move. You should basically be rapidly alternating between LMB and RMB, unless you reassigned the attack buttons.
Our ranged weapon is the Masterwork Pistol. There's a lot to unpack with this weapon:
- To fire a basic shot, you need to hold down LMB for about 1 second. Do not touch RMB, you cannot zoom in and there's no precise aim mode. You'll just have to get used to "hip-fire". Despite this, the Masterwork Pistol is highly accurate, even at long range. Use this mode for sniping specials and killing elites.
- To use the rapid-fire mode, RMB and then hold LMB. This is ideal for quickly downing bosses. Do it when hidden by your ultimate if possible, because you need to commit for a few seconds and cannot defend yourself. Combine it with a potion for even more damage. Beware that enemies can still hit you when you're invisible, if they're targeting an ally who is stood close to you, for example! This mode is also decent against large groups of elites. These shots are highly inaccurate and you need to be at point-blank range.
At first the Masterwork Pistol can seem a bit finicky. The first time I used it I didn't even know how to fire it normally. But once you get familiar with it, it's one of the strongest ranged weapons in the game, and is extremely versatile. You can find yourself using a lot of ammo with this weapon, especially if your team is slacking. Luckily the Ranger Veteran drops bags of ammo every time a Special is killed.
Talents
- Roots Running Deep - You get THP back when you stagger enemies. The Dual Hammers have good stagger, so you can easily refill your health bar by fighting a horde.
- Master of Improvisation - When you reload your ranged weapon, you shave 2 seconds off your Ability Cooldown. This is good if you find yourself in high-pressure situations a lot, as your ultimate is essential for dealing with those. If you're doing something easier, you can switch it to Foe-Feller for 5% more Attack Speed.
- Enhanced Power - Increases Power by 7%. This talent is by far the best at buffing your ranged attacks, which is what we're focusing on with this build. It's essential for hitting ranged breakpoints.
- Scavenger - Killing a special has a 20% chance to drop a potion or bomb instead of ammo. Potions and incendiary bombs are essential for this build, so this talent makes perfect sense.
- No Dawdling - Gives 10% extra Movement Speed. This might not sound like a big deal, but trust me, it is.
- Ranger's Parting Gift - Your Ultimate gives you a buff that lets you throw your next bomb for free (the bomb is not consumed). This even works with the Morgrim Bomb in Chaos Wastes, which allows you to completely cheese that game mode with this build. Otherwise, use the Incendiary Bomb for AoE damage, and combine it with a potion if needed.
Note: If playing on Cataclysm, replace the Curse Resistance with Movement Speed.
