This is an ideal Mercenary build for Quick Play in Legend or Cataclysm difficulty. It has great DPS potential, is excellent at clearing Elites and Hordes, and is good at killing Specials. The main weakness is mediocre boss damage, but you can mostly overcome this if you're skilled.
Weapons
We are using the Bretonnian Longsword for our melee weapon. I prefer this weapon because it has an excellent move tech for high mobility, comes with the ability to riposte (holding down your heavy attack causes you to block), and has a good set of attacks and combos.
Make use of the following combos:
- Vs Horde - LA > LA > Tap block to reset > repeat
- Vs Elites and Bosses - PA > HA > LA > repeat
- Vs Elites and Bosses (easy version) - HA > HA > PA (or tap block instead of the PA to make it even easier)
- Move Faster - Run forwards and spam first two HAs
LA = Light Attack
HA = Heavy Attack
PA = Push Attack (Hold left click while blocking)
Our ranged weapon is the Handgun. This is excellent for one-shotting special enemies. Try to get a headshot, which does much more damage and replenishes your ammo, thanks to the Conservative Shooter Trait. You can use the Repeater Handgun instead if you want. It's not as good at sniping, but it's more versatile and can be used more easily against packs of elites and monks.
Talents
- Drillmaster - Allows you to get great THP by engaging Hordes with light attack spam.
- Limb Splitter - Gives you very good cleave, great for cleaving hordes.
- Smiter - Boots your melee damage
- Reikland Reaper - This is the "selfish" choice at this Talent line, giving you an extra 15% power. You can switch it if you want to be more supportive.
- Blade Barrier - Good damage mitigation. If you're very confident at avoiding damage, you can switch it out.
- On Yer Feet, Mates! - This choice is pretty much a no-brainer. Not only does it stagger all nearby enemies and give everyone THP, it revives them immediately at pretty decent range. You can save the day very easily with this version of your Ultimate. Don't hold onto it waiting for the "perfect" time to use, though, as you'll barely ever use it. You can help your team out a lot by using the Ultimate more or less on Cooldown and giving people heaps of THP. Try to stay aware of your team, use the ultimate when someone is in trouble.
This build is quite easy to play and becomes a real powerhouse once you're accustomed to it.
